Online ACLS, BLS, and PALS Certification for Wichita Medical Professionals
Wichita, Kansas ranked 22nd on a list of the fittest cities in the United States. The ranking appeared in Men’s Fitness from the magazine’s 2012 survey, “The Fittest and Fattest Cities in America.”
Wichita received a 68.2 overall well-being score from the 2012 Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index—a higher score than the medium metro area average score of 66.7.
Gallup analyzed six sub-categories in creating the overall well-being score for 190 metropolitan areas surveyed. These focused on emotional health, physical health, work environment, healthy behavior, life evaluation, and basic access.
Between 2010 and 2012, the prevalence of Wichita residents who were uninsured rose from 16 percent to 18.1 percent, which was higher than the medium metro area rate of 16.7 percent. And residents who were optimistic that the city was becoming a better place to live decreased from 64.2 percent to 62.5 percent.
The occurrence of diabetes remained constant in 2010 and 2012 at 10.6 percent with a brief spike in 2011 to 11.1 percent. The rate of obesity among Wichita inhabitants dropped between 2010 and 2012 from 30 percent to 29.1 percent. Although there was a decline in obesity, Wichita had a higher rate than the medium metro area average of 26.2 percent.
Residents consuming the recommended five daily servings of fruits and vegetables at least four days a week decreased from 56.6 percent in 2010 to 56.2 percent in 2012. The occurrence of those who exercised regularly rose from 53.2 percent to 54.5 percent during that same period of time.
Interested Wichita residents are given training through Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) that assists providers in increasing the odds of survival for children caught in emergency medical situations. Trainees are provided with a wealth of facts on how to quickly and accurately gauge a child’s condition before providing assistance. Another essential aspect of successfully resuscitating a child is to have an organized team structure and solid communication among teammates.
Individuals need to finish Basic Life Support (BLS) training, however, before he or she can enroll in a PALS course. BLS tests are the building blocks on which Wichita’s citizens can obtain the skills for attending to both children and adults in crisis situations, such as on location of a car crash.
